Nevertheless, it remains a wonderful place. We noticed during our visit that it could use some updating - maybe a nice paint job or some new curtains. The hotel was built in colonial style and is the oldest 5 star hotel on the island. In some places there are very high waves that make it less attractive for swimmers, but all the better for surfers. ![]() This beach is protected by shark nets, so swimming is safe (though it didn’t make me feel comfortable). We stayed at hotel Le Saint Alexis, located on the famous beach of the island Boucan-Canot. ![]() So (if you live in a EU country) you can just travel with your ID. Because it is a French department, it is part of the European Union. This French overeas territory is located between Madagascar and Mauritius.
